Tribute to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II
21st April 1926 – 8th September 2022
On Thursday (8th September) we learnt of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II so our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family at this time.
Many of us will be saddened by this loss, not just in the United Kingdom, but elsewhere in countries where we have members. For over seventy years she has been the UK’s Head of State and many will not remember a time before and for those who do, it will be distant memory at best.
It was her selfless devotion to duty for all of this time that she will be remembered for, both at home and abroad. For instance, our Irish members will remember her historic trip to the Republic in 2011 when she received a warm Irish welcome despite many fears beforehand.
We in the UK were fortunate to be able to celebrate her unprecedented Platinum Jubilee earlier this year, but we now have to face an uncertain world with both constitutional and political change at home whilst we all worry about the ongoing situations elsewhere.
Now, the Crown has passed to our new Head of State who will be known as His Majesty King Charles III, so hopefully we can look forward with confidence to the future.
