Sharyn Davies awarded Letter of Commendation, November 2024

Nominated by Linda Varney who wrote: Sharyn and her husband John keep their boat, a Broom 37 Crown “Valkyrie Storm” in  Nieuport, Belgium although they live on the Thames.  Sharyn is a good supporter of BOC and contributes to the Facebook page.  But there were two things I wished to commend her for.  Firstly she employed the language skills of her friends and neighbours to produce a translation of the A5 BOC leaflet text into French and Belgian so she was able to leave these on Broom boats she came across near her marina and when cruising.  And secondly, inspired by “the best table in town” she launched her own Facebook competition to identify the small objects that were indispensible to members when going cruising.

Dear Sharyn,

CHAIRMAN’S LETTER OF COMMENDATION

It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you of the award of a Chairman’s Letter of Commendation from the Broom Owners Club. This award is presented to members who have enhanced the good name and reputation of the Club and have contributed in a significant way to the enjoyment of the Club by members.

You were recommended for the award by Linda Varney, for your encouragement of potential members from your mooring in Nieuwpoort, Belgium.  By employing the language skills of your friends and neighbours, you produced a translation of the A5 leaflet about the Club, into French and Flemish. This enables you and other members,  to leave the leaflets on Broom boats that you come across whilst cruising on board ‘Valkyrie Storm’, so spreading the word about the successful Broom Owners Club. This is a great initiative and could potentially introduce many new members in Europe, to the Club.

Additionally, you are recommended for your enthusiasm for the Club, expressed by the introduction of a prize competition, inspired by “The Best Table in Town”, to identify the small objects that are indispensable to cruising skippers. It is initiatives such as this which help members to further enjoy their Broom boats, which is an important objective of the Broom Owners Club.

Sharyn, your contributions help make this great Club what it is and I take great delight in awarding this Chairman’s Letter of Commendation to you.

Congratulations and thank you for what you do for the Broom Owners Club.

Yours sincerely,

David Haugh, BEM
Chairman, Broom Owners Club
