Thames Region Report
January 2017 got us off to a start for this year with a visit to Little Ship Club on the 24th Jan. 2017; 23 members attended and represented four regions of the club.
We enjoyed Club hospitality, tea and biscuits in the afternoon with an introductory talk given by their Rear Commodore, Drummond Robson, who presented the history/agenda of the Little Ship Club. David Broad responded explaining the history of Broom Boats and the BOC. We then had the chance to look around the Club’s facilities including the overnight accommodation cabins. The Club is situated on the north bank of the Thames between Southwark Bridge and Cannon Street, a prime position for exploring central London.
Thames Region Laying Up Lunch
27 members and guests from the Thames Region met for a Laying Up Lunch at the Thames Lodge Staines on Sunday 9 October. This was also the venue for the Fitting Out Lunch earlier in the year when river conditions put members off using their boats. This time 3 boats used the moorings outside the venue. A leisurely lunch was enjoyed by all - thanks to Andrew and Celia Cotter for the arrangements. Andrew reviewed the region's activities during 2016, beside the two lunches. 10 members visited the Windsor and Eton Brewery and there was a weekend rally at Hurley in May with 10 boats and several members arriving on foot. All very enjoyable. Plans are being made for visits during the 'closed' season - details to follow; any ideas and offers are very welcome. Linda Varney
