South Coast Region Celebrates the Start of the Season

On Saturday 21st March, 24 South Coast members met for a supper at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club to celebrate the start of the 2015 boating season. This was a chance to renew friendships and to welcome several members who have recently joined BOC or moved to the South Coast from other regions. Special thanks go to Kath and John Adcock who helped to organise this event.

As well as discussions about future rallies, I was able to tell members the good news that Broom Boat Ltd have appointed James Dickens of James Dickens Marine Ltd based in Hythe Village Marina, as the South Coast Dealer. James is already well known to many of the BOC members and we look forward to meeting with him in the near future.

Hurricane Bertha joins Southern Region Rally!

When Southern Region members planned a rally to Buckler's Hard, Beaulieu River over the weekend of 8th to 11th August, they had not anticipated that the remnants of Hurricane Bertha would be hitting the country at the same time! Despite this, and with a careful eye on the weather forecasts, 10 boats with 26 members and their friends attended.

The drinks reception party planned for Friday evening, was cancelled due to torrential rain. But, the indomitable spirit of Broom owners prevailed when members John and Julia Greenhalf, sheltering under umbrellas, delivered canapes to each of the boats.

Southern Region's Summer Rally

The sun shone brightly on the Southern Region's mid-July rally at Island Harbour, Isle of Wight. Twenty seven members and friends enjoyed a weekend of activities that included:  a drinks reception; a BBQ; and, a meal at the marina's on-site restaurant, Breeze. On Sunday morning, the now famous annual cricket match took place against members of the Island Harbour Yacht Club. This year, BOC emerged triumphant, winning by 63 runs to 49. Also during the weekend, a representative from the RNLI visited some of the boats to discuss sea safety isuues. Those members involved found this a very helpful excersise.

Southern Region starts the season "Italian Style"

Twenty three Southern Region members and their guests sucessfully launched the 2013 boating season with a dinner on Saturday, 23rd February. After pre-dinner drinks at the home of two of the region's members in Hythe Marina, all enjoyed an Italian meal at the nearby restaurant, La Vista. During the evening there was plenty of time to share boating yarns and make future cruising plans.

The next rally is to Bembridge Harbour, Isle of Wight, Friday to Sunday, 26th - 28th April. The event will include a "bring your own food and drink BBQ" on Saturday evening. During the weekend there will also be plenty of time to explore the local area, either on foot or on the Island's many buses.

For more information about this rally see details in the Southern Region's section of the web site or by contacting Gill Oldham: email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
