Southern Region wins the Ashes

Glorious summer sunshine heralded the Southern Region's mid-July rally to Island Harbour, Isle of Wight. A total of 15 boats with 36 members and friends enjoyed a weekend of sunshine, light winds and a warm welcome from the marina staff.

The event included a drinks reception on the Friday evening, a BBQ on Saturday and the annual "fun cricket match" against members of the Fairey Owners Club on Sunday morning. This year, BOC fielded a strong team and won the match by 101 runs to 91.

South Coast Region visit the RNLI College, Poole

The 2012 season started sucessfully when, in early March, 25 BOC members and friends spent a weekend at the RNLI College.  Facilities were excellent with spacious en-suite bedrooms and "five-star" quality food. On Saturday morning, 18 members took part in two workshops led by RNLI staff: Man Overboard (MOB) and Equipped to survive.  The information and advice given during the sessions could be adapted to suit members' individual needs. The afternoon tour of the College facilities, including access to the life-boat simulator,  proved very interesting.

South Coast Region visit RNLI College, Poole

The 2012 started successfully when 25 members and friends spent a weekend, in early March, at the RNLI College, Poole. The facilities were excellent with spacious en-suite bedrooms, all with a sea view, and "five-star" quality food.  On the Saturday morning, 18 of us took part in two workshops run by RNLI staff: Man Overboard and Equipped to Survive. The information, advice and practical help given during the sessions could easily be adapted to suit individual member's needs.  An afternoon tour of the College facilites, including access and use of the lifeboat simulator, was very poular.

An informal dicussion after the Saturday evening dinner was used to plan subsequent rallies.

This is the repeat of a very successful rally held at Island Harbour in 2011.  The event will include a BBQ and a challenge fun cricket match against a team from the Fairey Owners Club. (Last year Fairey owners won, so BOC needs to put the records straight!)

Friday, 21 September: Annual South Coast Dinner, 7.30pm, at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club

This event coincides with the last Friday of the Southampton Boat Show, so members and their friends from other regions are  welcome to join us. It is hoped that senior members of staff from Broom Boats  will be able to come.

Broomers pull together

Southern and South West Region came to Yarmouth Isle of Wight for the May Bank Holiday Weekend. This well established event this year had eleven Broom Boats booked (plus one friends boat who pretended to be a broom anyway!) Terry and Gill Bishop of G and T did the organisation and ensured that we had a really enjoyable time.

Saturday evening was spent in the Royal Solent Yacht Club enjoying an excellent meal whilst watching the light glisten over the seas to Lymington. The Pimm's thoughtfully included before the meal ensured the evening started off well and the excellent bar and wines made it easy to continue this for the whole evening. 10 out of 10 for enjoyment.

Sunday saw the 30 Broomers on their way to Cowes for lunch in the Island Yacht Club.    OK, we went by local buses, but the sea was a wee bit choppy! Again a delightful meal with a Carvery to challenge even the largest of the party.
