Over the long weekend of 17th to 20th July, 10 boats with 30 members and friends attended a rally at Island Harbour, Isle of Wight. Over the past few years, this has become a very popular annual event.
On Friday evening, we sheltered from the increasingly strong winds for a "welcome" drinks party and to toast the boating skills and determination of those who had travelled from as far afield as Weymouth and Brighton.
In bright sunshine we enjoyed a Saturday lunchtime BBQ which lasted well into the late afternoon. On Sunday morning, we mustered for the "fun sports" contest against members of the Island Harbour Yacht Club. In a break with tradition, the cricket match was replaced with a number of different activities: a modified version of Boules; hurling the "wellies"; and throwing the horseshoes!. BOC members excelled by winning all the events, demonstrating their very good hand/eye coordination skills. Prizes were awarded to: Roger Squires for Boules; Judith Reynolds for hurling the "wellies"; and Warwick Morgan for throwing the horseshoes. Trophies in the form of a mug from Tesco and a plasic challenge cup from a charity shop were exchanged by the team captains: Heather Bowley for the Island Harbour Yacht Club and Gill Oldham for BOC. In the evening, members celebrated their achievements with an excellent meal at the on-site restaurant, Breeze.
