Eastern Region Reaches Southwold

On board Second Chance

Eastern Region eventually got to Southwold on 6th June after three previous cancelled attempts last year. Six boats-Yorkshire Belle II, Gentle One, Ocean Belle, Ikon, Second Chance and Salamanda- made it in not ideal conditions and had a great time.

There are only 5 side on moorings, first come first served and the rest of us can moor stern on, no limit on numbers.

As you may have heard the Wells cruise was cancelled due to weather but may be rescheduled for July. The Southwold cruise is still on at the time of writing and there will be a BBQ at Brooms 4th July, details to follow.

Can I also remind you that there is an active BOC Facebook group which I find very useful for sending out information and in particular for posting photos of every visit and event. Another way to keep up with what the club is doing.

Eastern Region Visits Oyster Yachts

At Oyster yachtsOn Tuesday 26th May thirteen of us were given a tour, organised by Andy Beale, of the Oyster Yachts factory in Hoveton near Wroxham and this proved to be very interesting. These Rolls Royces of the sea begin at 47 feet and go up to over 100 feet though these big ones are built elsewhere. I knew that Landamores down by the river, where incidently Jamie Oliver's Broom Admiral Katinka is moored, had been involved from the start but had not realised that the hulls and superstructures were also made locally and fitted out out in a newer and larger modern factory nearby.

Eastern Region Update

After the success of the cruise in company to the Orwell the next event is the cruise to Wells 14th/18th May, then the visit to the Oyster Yachts factory in Wroxham 26th May followed by the cruise to Southwold 4th/8th June. Please contact me for further details.

It is still hoped to have a BBQ at Brooms on 4th July.

Eastern Region Fitting Out Cruise to the Orwell

Yorkshire Belle II, Gentle One, Escape II, Moonbow, Misty Isle and Lady Martina gathered on 24th April at RNSYC for a dinner then set off next morning in choppy conditions for the Orwell. We split into two groups-8 knot boats and 13 knot boats- arriving at Shotley Marina where we spent two days. The next four days we were at Ipswich Haven Marina, the proposed visit to Woodbridge having been abandoned due to bad weather. The return trip took place in even choppier conditions, Moonbow having to be left at Woolverstone due to family crisis, and Escape II limping along because of an overheating engine. The cause of this was eventually found to be an eel which had taken up residence in the port engine's water inlet! All in all a great event, great company and enormous thanks to Ken and Jane Foster on Gentle One for organising it. Exactly what the club is about.

Photos on the BOC Facebook page. Next three events Wells, Oyster Yachts and Southwold.
