Eastern Region Update

After the success of the cruise in company to the Orwell the next event is the cruise to Wells 14th/18th May, then the visit to the Oyster Yachts factory in Wroxham 26th May followed by the cruise to Southwold 4th/8th June. Please contact me for further details.

It is still hoped to have a BBQ at Brooms on 4th July.

Eastern Region Fitting Out Cruise to the Orwell

Yorkshire Belle II, Gentle One, Escape II, Moonbow, Misty Isle and Lady Martina gathered on 24th April at RNSYC for a dinner then set off next morning in choppy conditions for the Orwell. We split into two groups-8 knot boats and 13 knot boats- arriving at Shotley Marina where we spent two days. The next four days we were at Ipswich Haven Marina, the proposed visit to Woodbridge having been abandoned due to bad weather. The return trip took place in even choppier conditions, Moonbow having to be left at Woolverstone due to family crisis, and Escape II limping along because of an overheating engine. The cause of this was eventually found to be an eel which had taken up residence in the port engine's water inlet! All in all a great event, great company and enormous thanks to Ken and Jane Foster on Gentle One for organising it. Exactly what the club is about.

Photos on the BOC Facebook page. Next three events Wells, Oyster Yachts and Southwold.

Eastern Region Fitting Out Supper 18th April

To coincide again with the Broom boat show we held our fitting out supper at Coldham Hall. 40 people attended including Mark Garner and a Broom contingent. 12 boats moored outside on the pub moorings and other people were ferried accross the river in a new Broom 35 hire cruiser. A great time was had by all and it was good to see new members and existing members I hadn't met before. It's all rush again as we are due back on our boat on Thursday for the start of the first cruise in company of the season, this time to the Orwell. The next two cruises can accomodate more boats if anyone is interested. Wells 14th/18th May and Southwold 4th/8th June.

Eastern Region Events 2015

Below is a summary of 2015 events as of now. Updates will be issued as necessary but a confirmation email will be sent out to members very soon.

1. April 18th  Combined Fitting Out Supper and Broom Boat Show.

This will have a similar format to last year. BOC will have a stand at the daytime show, staffed by 2/3 committee members and there will be a meal at Coldham Hall in the evening, 7 for 7.30. All the mooring space will be reserved for us again, first come first served, and Brooms have generously agreed to offer a ferry service again from their yard for members moored there or for those wanting to come by car. Please let me know if you wish to come to the meal and  send your food orders direct to the restaurant. Details on how to do this and the menu will be attached to my next email.

Two cruises in company are now planned for the beginning of the season. The first is a visit to the Orwell being organised by Ken and Jane Foster meeting at RNSYC on Friday 24th April, meal in the clubhouse. Cast off 25th taking in Woodbridge, Ipswich, Shotley and possibly Titchmarsh, all subject to sea conditions. Return to Lowestoft 2nd May. If you are interested please contact Ken and Jane for further details at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or ring 01603 715131, leaving a message if no reply. As we have about a dozen members based in that area it would be nice for the Broads contingent to meet up with some of you.

The second one was announced in my pre Christmas email and is a cruise to Wells and is being organised by Robert Middleton. We set off Thursday 14th May and return Monday 18th May. For further information please contact Robert at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

I am hoping to announce two social events for March and April soon and three boats are continuing to meet up through the Winter. Anyone who has not laid up their boat is welcome to join us, next trip w/c 26th January.
