Eastern Region Update 17th November

First of all the Laying Up Supper was a great success and attended by 60 people. Our biggest event this year and a hard act to follow but already ideas are being formulated for future events.

You will have heard mention of The Intrepids before and we  are setting off 9ish next Tuesday-24th-from Brundall to cross over to the northern rivers mid dayish, coming back Thursday or Friday, all dependant on water levels. Springs are forecast so we have a good chance. Please let me know if you would like to come. Of course it would be possible to join us by car.  Nothing is definitely planned over there. We will play it by ear.

There is also a plan to stay at The Riverside at Brammerton on Saturday 28th November for a Race Evening and 3 course meat costing £25/30 a head. Again please let me know if you want to come-either by boat or by car.

Eastern Region Laying Up Supper 14th November.

This year's Laying Up Supper is to be held at The Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club on Saturday November 14th. Once again Geoff Eason has kindly offered to organise this and details can be obtained from him or me. An email has already been sent out to Eastern Region members with all the information but if anyone has not received this please contact me and I will forward it on to you.

20 Boats at Beccles August Bank Holiday

The Beccles BBQ BOC group20 boats were in place in time for the Saturday BBQ which started at 4pm. Unfortuately the rain began at 8 so we all managed to get inside tented city and enjoy a fairly raucous evening. The next morning we sailed under the low road bridge in a local ferry and an assortment of dinghies, several of which broke down, up river to the Gelderston Lock pub for lunch. In the evening 41 people sat down to dinner at the Waveney Hotel and this was followed by an after dinner speaker, the Operations Manager of the Lowestoft lifeboat. The collection box raised £88.98 for RNLI.  A great time superbly organised by Jane Neale. Is 20 boats a record?

Also do please come to the AGM weekend at Bisham Abbey 16th/18th October and the next Eastern Region event will be the Laying Up Supper 14th November at RNSYC.

Broom BBQ Saturday 4th July.

For once the weather co-operated and the whole day and evening were hot and sunny but with a nice cooling wind. 66 people turned up on the island and were treated to excellent food cooked by chef Paul Pardon and drinks served by Mark and his team. A singer provided discreet background music. Fantastic event and great hospitality as usual by Brooms. More photos on Facebook.

The next planned Eastern Region event will be the Beccles weekend, August Bank Holiday. Anyone still wanting to book please contact Jane Neale. It is also still hoped to reschedule the Wells trip for 8th to 12th August. Contact Robert Middleton for further details at This email address is being protected from spambots. A number of people like the idea of a cruise to London next year. I am sure this will be discussed at Beccles but there will a get together in the Winter to progress the matter.
